Step 1: Domain Name for your blog
In this first step we will examine what a “Domain Name” is, where you can get one, and tips for selecting the best domain name for your new blog or website.
What is a Domain Name?
Without getting too technical, a domain name is similar to a plot of land where you can build your home (in this case your ‘home’ just happens to be your website’s homepage)
A domain name contains your own unique ‘name’ – such as our domain ‘blog-starter’ – and suffix such as .com, .net, .org (also referred to as TLDs)
A domain’s length can be up to 63 characters (including a-z, 0-9, and ‘-’ dashes)
Every website on the Internet has an Internet Protocol (IP) address, which is a unique string of numbers. That string of numbers is how other computers are able to locate the site on the Internet. Since it’s difficult for people to remember those numbers, the domain name system (DNS) is basically a phone book for the Internet. Whenever you type a website address, or domain, into your web browser, it contacts a DNS server to locate the proper website.
Years ago when the domain name system was introduced, only a few top level domains (TLDs) were available. The main TLDs available to the general public included .com, .net, and .org, and those TLDs are still the most sought after. These are seen as generic TLDs, because they aren’t associated with any country or government entity.
In addition to the original TLDs, a number of country code TLDs (ccTLDs) were created. Some examples of ccTLDs include .ca for Canada and .uk for the United Kingdom. Some ccTLDs can be registered by anyone, and they have been marketed as alternatives to the generic TLDs. Some examples include .ws for Western Samoa, .co for Colombia, and .tv for Tuvala. Other ccTLDs, such as .us, are restricted to citizens and business entities that operate in those countries.
Due to the incredible demand for domain names, a number of other generic TLDs have also been created. Some examples of relatively new generic TLDs include .info for informational sites, .biz for commercial sites, and .name for personal sites. There are no restrictions on these TLDs, so you can actually use a .info, .biz, or .name domain for whatever purpose you like.
Where do you get a Domain Name?
A domain is often purchased through domain registrars – there are literally 1000s of registrars selling domain names on the Internet, so it can be a very daunting task to find a good registrar.
Fortunately, many web hosting companies also sell domains – or better yet give you a free domain when you host your website or blog with them (discussed later in ‘Step 4‘).
Now you know the basics of what a domain name is, but how do you choose a good one? Below are some useful guidelines when selecting a good domain:
The shorter the better! Yes, a domain can technically be up to 63 characters, but try telling a friend what your 63 character website is! Also, it’s a good idea to keep your domain length to 1 – 3 words so it’s easily understood.
.COM is still King! It’s true that there are many other suffixes available, but .com is still by far the best domain suffix. Of course, if you are making a personal blog, then the suffix doesn’t matter as much compared to if you are trying to start an e-commerce website. If you are unable to find a good, available .com domain, then stick to other popular suffixes such as .net, .org, or .info.
To Dash, or Not to Dash – Generally speaking dashes (or hyphens) should be avoided. A domain with a dash in it is valued at a fraction of a domain without one. Domains with one dash are acceptable, but domains with multiple dashes should probably be avoided since they can be seen as spammy to search engines and visitors alike.
Note: Some country domains are also quite popular depending where you live. In the United Kingdom, .co.uk is an excellent alternative, same with .de in Germany and .ca in Canada.
Some Domain Name Examples:
Perhaps you want to blog about your family. Say your last name is ‘problog’ – since it’s a common last name you’ll have to get creative. One such example is ‘problog.com’ (available at time of writing).
Or you may wish to blog about Stock tips – some examples might be: ‘protipsblog.com’ or ‘problogtips.com’

Choose Short Name: If you choose long keyword domain name then might be its hard to remember that name for your readers and short domain names are easy to remember for anyone, so I recommend you to choose just two word domain name, like I do for my this blog. “bazzhod”.
Don’t Go with Numeric Words for Domains: According to Google for SEO purpose they will prefer the domains names with alphabetical keywords and not numeric keywords like digits or something like that for ex. bazzhood.com, hoodbazz.com like that. So, always go with the alphabetical keywords for your domain names.
Mostly Prefer Dot Com for Domains: As I already mentioned in this guide that .com domains are most successful and most demanded domains in the world and most of readers on the internet used to with .com names because it’s a permanent thought in the mind that domains name comes with .com extension. I’ll tell you why? in this world most of internet users love the domain names which comes with .com because it’s a common extension for all of us. If you did not get .com extension, you can choose .net as your extension.
Choose Domain Name according to Blog Topic: Always choose the domain name according to your blog topic. If you want to start a tech blog and your domain have keywords like besttips.com then it’s a common sense that you choose a silly name. Your domain name must be similar for your blog topic.

B) Setup WordPress:
Check your email for your Control Panel login information – you will also need to click the link in the email to set a password.

After selecting WordPress, click the Install button at the bottom of the page (see below).
WordPress Installation Options:
Step 1: Installation Preferences – usually you’d want your blog to be installed in the root of your domain (ie. its homepage, not a sub-directory). If you want it installed in your website’s root, then leave the section blank where it says: Where would you like WordPress Installed? Otherwise enter the directory’s name, for example, if you want WordPress installed in the “news” directory, then you’d enter news in this section.
Note: Leave the install version on its default setting (ie. where it asks, Which version of WordPress would you like to install?.
Step 2: Advanced Options – Here you select your blog’s title, username and password (remember these – you’ll need them to write on your blog later). Be sure to also check the box beside Automatically create a new database.
Step 3: Plugins and Themes – leave this section blank, we’ll cover this more after installation is complete – be sure to uncheck any plugins and themes that are selected.
Step 4: Legal Information – read the license and check the box after you’ve read it, then click the Complete button to begin installation (see image below).
That’s it, WordPress has been installed! Continue onto the next step to choose a WordPress theme and write your first blog post!

D) Writing Your First Blog Post!
Now that your blog setup is completed, let’s write your first blog post. To do this, once logged into your WordPress blog, click Posts, then Add New on the left-hand menu. You’ll need to do 3 things to publish your first post. 1) Enter Title (see image below), 2) Enter the Content of your Post, and 3) Click ‘Publish’. Now your first post is live on the Internet!
Want an Image in your Post? WordPress makes adding images and other media to your blog extremely simple. Just click the Upload/Insert link under the title of your blog post. A window will open asking where you want to get the image from – the default option is to upload one from your Computer. Click Browse and find the image and then click the Upload button. Finally, you’ll need to scroll down the page and click the Insert into Post button. Now the image has been inserted into your post. Be sure to click the Publish or Update button to save any changes you’ve made to your post.

Default Wordpress Pages for Your blog
The first thing that most people using Wordpress blogs have to do, but that most don’t do, is to change the default pages provided with your blog. These are the ‘Hello World’ and ‘About’ pages. My advice is:
Hello World: Delete it. Go to ‘Manage’ then ‘Pages’. You will see the ‘Hello World’ page listed there. Click on delete. You don’t need it and don’t want it. Wordpress provide it to allow you to proclaim your blog to the world, but anybody who uses it is regarded as a bit ‘naff’ or a beginner at the game. You might very well be both, but you don’t have to advertise the fact.
About: Change it. Say something about yourself to let visitors know why and with what authority you are writing your blog. Here is some suggested content:
Your name and any personal information you want to provide, such as age, marital status, children and education.
Your job or profession, and any specific interests you have. Some people like reading this information.
Why you have your blog. What it’s purpose is. Why do you enjoy blogging. Is it part of a marketing strategy or are you just blogging for enjoyment or because you are lonely. Many people are, and blogging is a great way out of it for them. It is good therapy.
Any specific experience or qualifications you have in your subject. This is what people really want to know so don’t hesitate to tell them what you are good at, and how you got good at it! But tell the truth – it will soon become apparent that you are not the expert on SEO or dog training that you claim to be.

Provide genuine information about yourself, and you can even make a few statements that let them know your politics or views on any topical subjects, though even these are likely best left to another page you have specifically designed for the purpose.

5. Backlink:
Also known as an inbound link or just an inlink, a backlink is any hyperlink that leads to your website from an external site or page. Backlinks are important to search engine rankings, but not all backlinks are beneficial. An unsolicited inbound link from a respected website will add value to your own site, but 1000 purchased links from sites like are more likely to get you penalized.
6. Non-reciprocal Link:
When one website links to another, but the other does not have a link back, it is considered a non-reciprocal link. Search engines often assign higher values to non-reciprocal links because they are more likely organic and not part of a link exchange arrangement.
7. Linkbait:
Linkbait refers to a page created for the express purpose of garnering lots of backlinks, often via social media sharing. Typically this requires high quality, attention-grabbing content, whether it is an infographic, a useful tool, a top ten list, or a clever video. Even a comic will work.
8. Anchor Text:
Since URLs are ugly, links are often placed in clickable text that describes the link destination in some way. Anchor text is typically a different color and is often underlined.

Also known as a search bot or a web crawler, these programs search the web on behalf of search engines to find new web pages and index them.
11. Robots.txt:
This is a file in your website’s root directory that serves as instructions for search bots and spiders. You can use it to restrict which areas of your website are crawled or to block specific robots.
12. PPC (Pay Per Click):
An advertising model in which an ad is hosted on a website (such as Google or Facebook) and the advertiser pays the host for each click the ad receives.
13. NoFollow:
NoFollow is a link attribute that tells search engine spiders to ignore certain links that the website does not endorse, such as user-posted links or sponsored links. NoFollow links will not be used in search algorithms or in calculating PageRank.
14. Meta Tags:
Information that appears in the HEAD section of the page, including Title and Description, which tells search engines what the page is about. The Title and Description tags are typically displayed on SERPs, so they are often a user’s first impression of a webpage.
15. Canonical URL:
Since the same URL can be represented in several different ways (domainname.com, www.yourdomainname.com, www.yourdomainname.com/index.html), canonicalization sets one of those as the standard URL for your website. Properly setting up the canonical URL (by placing a noindex tag or a 301 Redirect on the other URLs) also stops search engines from mistaking the others as duplicate content.
